Fox Chase Cancer Center Regulatory Compliance Officer Elected to Board of Directors of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering
PHILADELPHIA (November 18, 2002) -- Joe Rawson of Feasterville, Pa., regulatory compliance officer at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), the largest chapter of the American Hospital Association. ASHE's mission is to serve as the advocate and resource for continuous improvement in the health-care engineering and facilities management professions.
Starting in January, Rawson will serve a two-year term as the region II representative, acting as liaison between the national association and local chapters in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He will also chair specific committees to be determined by the board president.
A member of ASHE since 1987, Rawson is past president and executive board member of the Healthcare Facility Managers Association of Delaware Valley, a local chapter of ASHE with about 300 members. He received the association's Annual Recognition Award in 2001.
Rawson is also a member of the Hospital Fire Marshals Association (HFMA) and certified by ECRI (formerly the Emergency Care Research Institute) as a health-care environmental manager. ECRI is an independent nonprofit health services research agency dedicated to improving the safety, quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care.
As regulatory compliance officer, Rawson represents Fox Chase in ensuring that the institution meets the requirements of various regulatory agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Rawson earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology at Spring Garden College in Philadelphia and his master's degree in business administration at Temple University.
