American Nurses Association Appoints Hambleton to Commission on Workplace Advocacy

PHILADELPHIA (February 6, 2002) — Joanne Hambleton, RN, MSN, CNA, of Ivyland, Bucks County, vice president of nursing and patient services at Fox Chase Cancer Center has been appointed to serve on the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Commission on Workplace Advocacy (CWPA). Hambleton fills a vacancy on the commission and will serve through 2002.

According to the ANA, workplace advocacy is the cornerstone of the American Nurses Association. Programs, legislative initiatives, policy statements and standards promulgated by the American Nurses Association support nurses in their efforts to provide quality patient care and to work in safe and positive environments.

Hambleton's dedication to cultivating a quality working environment and workplace safety is evident in the successful effort to attain the Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Award. The award distinguished Fox Chase as the first hospital in Pennsylvania, and the first comprehensive cancer center in the country to accomplish this goal. The CWPA identifies the Magnet Recognition Program as an excellent resource which identifies a best practice model for nurses.

Hambleton earned her BSN from Syracuse University and her MSN from Villanova University. Earlier this year, the Villanova College of Nursing awarded her its Leadership in Nursing Practice medallion. This summer, Hambleton completed the prestigious "Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives," sponsored by Johnson and Johnson and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Hambleton is a member of many nursing organizations, an author of several nursing practice articles, a speaker at numerous conferences and meetings and an untiring advocate for care of the cancer patient.
