Fox Chase Cancer Center Sponsors Eighth Annual Radiation Oncology Conference

PHILADELPHIA (May 10, 1999) -- Fox Chase Cancer Center will sponsor its eighth annual Radiation Oncology Conference May 20 - 22, 1999 at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel, 17th & Race Streets, Philadelphia.

The conference, presented by the Center's Department of Radiation Oncology and Department of Continuing Nursing Education, is open to nurses, therapists, and dosimetrists who help plan the size and direction of radiation doses.� This year's program is designed to provide information about available treatment options and current management practices for patients receiving radiation therapy.� Current issues pertaining to the care and management of patients in the radiation oncology setting will also be addressed.

The conference is designed to provide a forum that encourages interaction and discussion.� Some of the nursing topics include: cancer pain management, radiotherapy and the skin, and basics of MRI and its uses in radiation oncology.� There will also be a panel discussion on the role of the radiation nurse.� Sessions for therapists and dosimetrists include radiation risk assessments to public and hospital workers, and music therapy and the cancer patient.� Conference participants will be able to earn continuing education credits with the appropriate professional organizations.
