Welcome

Welcome to an update of all Fox Chase Cancer Center's expansion efforts, a corner of our Web site devoted to the latest news and happenings about our developing plans for expansion — here at our Northeast Philadelphia home, and beyond.

On campus, we are in the final stages of construction of a new parking garage and expanded Pavilion. These are expected to be ready by the winter of 2010.

Far from our campus, in Bucks County, we have opened a satellite radiation facility in Buckingham, offering CyberKnife treatment.

Expansion is critical to Fox Chase's ability to save lives, develop new treatments for cancer, and provide thousands of good-paying jobs for local residents. As such, the Center's Board and leadership will continue to evaluate the best course of action to enable expansion to occur.

It is important to understand that people on both sides of the Burholme Park issue almost unanimously agree that Fox Chase Cancer Center needs to expand, and it needs to expand as soon as possible. Cancer is on pace to supplant heart disease as the No. 1 cause of death worldwide by 2010.

Opening 2009

This planning, coupled with the 19 expansion projects underway and in the works at our current location — including the new 125,000-square-foot Robert C. Young, MD, Pavilion and the Women’s Cancer Center — give everyone in the Fox Chase family a lot to be excited about.

Expansion means more capacity, not only to treat our rapidly expanding patient base, but also to conduct more of the pioneering scientific research we do that advances cancer treatment and care worldwide.  It means working with the latest technology in the most advanced settings, uncovering new opportunities for fulfilling our research mission, recruiting the most talented scientists, physicians and staff, and, perhaps most importantly, preserving the independent spirit that has made Fox Chase who we are today.

We still have a significant amount of studying and planning ahead of us, and we’ll do our best to keep everyone as fully informed as possible while the process proceeds.  I encourage you to join our mailing list to receive updates about our latest developments.  In the mean time, if you have any questions about our plans and our progress, write to us at expansion@fccc.edu

Towards the future!
